Reiki is a Japanese healing system. It was re-discovered in the 1920's by Dr. Mikao Usui who taught it to over 2000 students in his lifetime. It is now practised worldwide. 

 

Reiki can help to balance and harmonise all aspects of the mind, body and spirit by shifting the nervous system from a stressed “fight or flight” mode to a “rest, digest and restore” mode.

 

The system of Reiki is based upon the concept of the life force energy that flows in and around all living things. A body is healthy when this energy flows as it should but stress and trauma can upset this normal flow resulting in dis-ease. Reiki removes these negative energy blocks and allows positive energy to flow to where it is needed, always for the highest good of the client. It is a non-invasive hands on or off technique that everyone can benefit from. It is safe for everyone, even animals.

 

A Reiki Practitioner is trained and attuned to this life force energy and is simply a channel, guiding it to where it is needed through the hands. This helps to reduce stress and anxiety and can support recovery after surgery or illness. Reiki is a complementary therapy. It is not an alternative to traditional medical treatments but can be used in conjunction to enhance the effectivity of medical treatments or reduce side effects by reducing anxiety and promoting better sleep patterns. Many NHS hospitals and hospices are now offering Reiki as a complementary therapy, particularly to cancer patients, free of charge to help alleviate anxiety and low mood, to reduce stress and muscle tension and to help reduce pain and other symptoms.
